Women in Sport is deeply saddened by the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.  During her seventy-year reign she showed enormous strength, stoicism, and an unwavering sense of duty. We join the rest of the country in mourning the passing of our queen.

Whilst Queen Elizabeth will be remembered for many incredible achievements, for us at Women in Sport it was her love of the outdoors, where she spent so many hours with her dogs and horses, that was particularly inspiring. Her unbridled sense of joy at being on horseback or walking in the highlands of Scotland and her passion for horse-racing showed her humanity and how important sport and nature are to relieve the pressure that comes with responsibility.

A strong leader and matriarch of an extended family, Queen Elizabeth dedicated her life to her country. Among her many qualities she was resilient, hardworking, and humble. She was a constant in all of our lives and an inspiration to women and girls all over the world.
