9th March 2023

In this clip from BBC Breakfast, Chief Executive of Women in Sport Stephanie Hilborne OBE discusses the importance of school sport for girls.

This comes after the Government announcement that sets out new standards for equal access to sport, making it clear that girls and boys should be offered the same sports during PE and extracurricular time in schools.

  • Only 30 % of parents

think playing sport is very important for their daughter

  • Only 49 % of girls

aged 5-11 take part in a team sport compared to 70% of boys
