The Guardian: 40 years of Women in Sport

We’re delighted to have been able to share the history of our charity in the Guardian. It was in this newspaper, 40 years ago, that the founding of our charity, originally called the Women’s Sport Foundation, was reported.

In an article penned by Derek Wyatt, a then rugby player who later became an MP and early male ally of women’s sport, he explains why he convened a meeting of brilliant women from across the sport sector.

Inspired by Billie Jean King’s US charity and angered by the lack of opportunity for women and girls in sport, our brilliant co-founders set about on a journey for change. Our charity was the answer to that change.
