Women in Sport statement

Published

Women in Sport is deeply distressed by the violence terrorising our diverse communities and instilling fear. We condemn those who are deliberately stoking hatred and division – all perpetrators must be held to account. No one should feel afraid in our country. Everyone should feel safe to walk out of their home, onto the street or into the park.

We know women and girls are already fearful of going out in public spaces, particularly after dark, something which makes their worlds smaller and inhibits freedom and exercise. Muslim women and women of colour are telling us how they are now even more frightened for themselves, their families and communities. We stand with them.

We are uplifted by the individual and collective acts of support for our diverse society and as a charity we stand in solidarity with our friends in Sporting Equals and everyone calling for unity and accountability.
