Every October, our #TimeTogether campaign encourages mums and mother figures to team up with their teenage daughters to claim back their right to sport and exercise.

Why not join the nationwide movement of women and girls joining forces to put themselves first, make memories and try something new.

Join in with #TimeTogether from 21st October to 1st November 2024.

“Navigating life’s changes together”

We asked 19-year-old Women in Sport Youth Ambassador Lauren about what she enjoys about spending #TimeTogether with her mum…

As me and my sister were growing up, we have always enjoyed the weekend ritual of going on walks with my mum; being together, enjoying the fresh air and taking the opportunity to connect.

Discovering an activity we all enjoyed allowed us the space to have conversations about self-confidence, mental well-being, and health.

“Being outside and getting active with my mum made me feel at ease and has become a valuable moment of my weekend.” – Lauren, 19

We found a way to navigate life’s changes together by using exercise as an outlet to discuss the difficulties of being a teenager, as well as the shifts my mum was experiencing in midlife. Through our conversations, we explored the emotional and physical differences she faced compared to her younger years, deepening our understanding of each other in the process.

After our walks, we always feel refreshed and uplifted, and as we became fitter and stronger, our weekend walks progressed to longer hikes and even occasionally climbing mountains together.

Spending time together with my mum made me appreciate that something as simple as walking together can offer countless benefits for both teenage girls and midlife mums, developing not just physical health but also emotional connection and support.
